VOTE 1 MorganClarke

We face economic and environmental uncertainty. Melbourne needs a genuinely Independent Council, capable of providing financial accountability, and ethical leadership. The MorganClarke Team has credibility; in business; on Council and in the community. We know what business needs and, importantly, what residents and ratepayers need from the City Council: Value for their dollars as well as a Vision.

The MorganClarke Team live, work and breathe, right here in Melbourne. Rates and services matter to us. Traffic congestion, public transport, bikes and air quality, all matter. Restoring residents’ rights and winding back State Government control matter. The Arts, great cuisine, and our marvellous gardens matter.

Sustainability and liveability in Melbourne
actually mean something to us.

Collectively, the MorganClarke Team has the skills to make Melbourne thrive once more.

About postal voting

Under the postal voting system, all voters are posted their ballot papers along with statements, photographs and recommended preferences submitted by candidates. Voters then complete their ballot papers and return them by post to the Returning Officer over a two-week period in November 2008.

The ballot packs are mailed to voters over a three-day period. This period is at least 15 days before the last day of voting. Postal ballot envelopes may not be posted or delivered to more than 35 per cent of voters on any one day. All completed ballot papers must be received by the Returning Officer by 6pm on Friday, 28 November 2008.

How do I vote in a postal election?

To vote, a voter must:

  • complete the two ballot papers;
  • place the completed ballot papers in the ballot paper envelope;
  • sign and date the declaration on the outside of the ballot paper envelope; and
  • place the ballot paper envelope in the reply paid envelope and return it to the Returning Officer.

For votes to count ballot material must be received by the Returning Officer by 6pm on Friday, 28 November 2008.

Letter to Supporters

Dear Friends,

This letter is to inform you that I have decided to stand in the forthcoming City of Melbourne election for the position of Lord Mayor.

As a local resident and businessman, I understand the issues that are important to residents, ratepayers and the business community. I am committed to ensuring that Melbourne remains a splendid place to live, work and enjoy. To achieve these aims it is essential that Melbourne is Australia’s major business and industrial centre and a world recognised tourist hub.

We need to take our city forward into the future so we can be recognised as one of the world’s great cities on a par with London, Paris, Rome and New York.

It is clear the City of Melbourne needs a new leadership team and a financially accountable, independent Council who will work hard to deliver real results for ratepayers, residents and business. Those elected at the Council election need to be there for the greater good of Melbourne and not for self-interest.

My colleagues on the MorganClarke Team and I would appreciate your support and would like your assistance in our campaign in this election. We have the vision and the leadership capability to put Melbourne first.

I am pleased to be supported by the current president of the Docklands Community Association, Michele Anderson, as Deputy Mayor. Our Team includes the experienced Cr Peter Clarke who is standing for re-election as well as local community activists, Dr Jackie Watts, convenor of the Carlton Residents’ Association, and Margaret Wood, former president of the East Melbourne Group. Dr. Jackie Watts is the coordinator of CoRBA-Melbourne (Coalition of Resident and Business Associations) while Michele Anderson and Margaret Wood are also active members of CoRBAMelbourne.

With your support we will ensure that the City of Melbourne is economically and environmentally sustainable, and most importantly, ‘liveable’ for all stakeholders.

It is essential, that we all work together to attract more commerce. International travellers are now often discouraged from coming to Melbourne due to costly air fares, poor airline services and lack of daily direct flights. This is confirmed by a recent Conde Nast Traveler survey which showed that Sydney tops Melbourne as the preferred destination in Australia and the Pacific – this needs to change.

Attached is a form you may wish to send back to me indicating your willingness to assist in a variety of ways.

With kind regards,

Gary Morgan,
