Gary Morgan — Lord Mayor


Gary Morgan

Gary Morgan and his family have lived and worked in Melbourne for nearly 50 years. He is a prominent local businessman and Australia’s leading social and political researcher. His wife Genevieve Morgan is a Vice President of the East Melbourne Group and a member of 'Save the Elms'.

He is Executive Chairman of Australia’s largest independently owned research company Roy Morgan Research which has its Head Office in Melbourne with other offices around Australia as well as in the UK, US, NZ and Indonesia and employs over 400 people. He is proprietor of Morgans at 401 - restaurant, 401 Collins Street Conference Centre and Collins Street Art Gallery. Gary Morgan was co-founder of the Committee for Melbourne which promotes Melbourne as an international business hub. Roy Morgan Research is a principal sponsor of Melbourne Opera. He is a resident of the City of Melbourne and lives with his family in East Melbourne.

Michele Anderson — Deputy Lord Mayor

Michele Anderson has lived with her family at Docklands for 7 years and has been involved in the Docklands community from its inception. Michele Anderson was instrumental in the establishment of the Docklands Community Association and currently serves as its President. From 2002 — 2004, Michele was Chairperson of the Arkley Tower and from 2004 Chairperson of the Nolan Tower at Docklands. From 2007 - 2008 she was a Member of the Chamber of Commerce Committee and is presently a member of CoRBA- Melbourne Coalition of Residents and Business Associations. Her husband Col and son Blake run a sail making business from Fishermans Bend and daughter Brooke is completing Year 12. Michele Anderson works on a number of committees having delivered positive outcomes for both residents and owners.

Cr Peter Clarke — Councillor

Cr Peter Clarke is currently a Melbourne City Councillor and is seeking re-election. He has worked hard at keeping the previous administration accountable, voting against the recent rate rises. He is a Director of a public company PrimeTrust which specialises in the development of aged care and senior living projects and has worked in Melbourne nearly all his life. A graduate of RMIT, Peter Clarke is the Co-Chair of the Docklands Committee. Peter Clarke has had previous experience in local government having been a former Mayor and Councillor for the City of Heidelberg. He has previously served as Director of two industry associations, the Institute of Architects and the Property Council of Australia. He was also part of creating the strategy for residential living in the CBD, which became known as ‘Postcode 3000’. He has also served on the Board of the Old Treasury Building. Peter is a member of the Liberal Party but is not standing as a party political candidate. He is married with 2 children who attend Melbourne University and the City Campus of Eltham College. His wife, Susan Clarke is the Librarian at the Salvation Army Training College in Parkville.

Dr Jackie Watts — Councillor

Jackie Watts

Jackie Watts has been a resident of Carlton for 10 years and prior to that resided in nearby Fitzroy for 20 years. She is a long-standing community activist in Melbourne and has been involved in advocating the needs of local residents through her work as Convenor of the Carlton Residents’ Association and the Coordinator of CoRBA — Melbourne (Coalition of Resident and Business Associations). Jackie holds a Doctorate in Education (RMIT), postgraduate qualifications in Teaching and Librarianship (University of Melbourne) and a BA (La Trobe University). Jackie is currently a self-employed Education Consultant and a part-time Academic in the R.M.I.T. School of Management. Jackie Watts has considerable business experience and a continuing involvement in a family business. Jackie Watts is a member of the Australian Labor Party and the Australian Fabian Society but is not standing as a party political candidate. She has also been active in a number of community and charitable organisations including Amnesty International and Foster Parents’ Plan Australia.

Margaret Wood — Councillor

Margaret Wood

As a Committee Member and Past President of the East Melbourne Group, Margaret Wood is a well respected leader in the Melbourne community. Currently the editor of the East Melbourne News, she has successfully lobbied Melbourne City Council to upgrade library and community facilities, improve planning rules as well as preserve the heritage and culture of Melbourne. She has also campaigned for better services for residents and rate payers, better protection for parks and gardens and cleaner streetscapes. Margaret Wood is the CoRBA representative for the East Melbourne Group. She has a long standing association with our City having graduated from Melbourne University. She lives with her family in East Melbourne.
